Rocket League: Year One Quick Review

This came out of nowhere last summer and took gamers by storm as this vehicular soccer influenced game made waves across the industry.

Over the last year, new modes, cars and customizations have been added in that made this a well-rounded product.

The premise is simple, a standard team of 3 cars go against another team trying to score goals by any means necessary. The spectacle of nitrous fueled cars fly through the air for insane goals is breathtaking.

“Rocket League” is one of the few games after 2400 matches , where I can honestly say it never gets old.

Controls are simple, being easy to pick up and play for any newcomers to win with basic moves. Although, over time as the player learns the mechanics, complex plays will become a regular occurrence.

The online ranking system is addictive, while being a bit flawed as teams can be mismatched often enough to cause frustrations of having to play a loosing battle.

Offline 2 on 2’s make one of the most enjoyable couch multiplayer experiences since Smash Bros or Mario Kart.

Rocket League just had a collectors edition hit stores with all the DLC, making a great starting point for this excellent title.

Trolling Hits The NBA

When watching a game, basketball fans usually are acting like its life and death. That if their team loses their whole family will be assassinated. This past week has seen the most light hearted antics the NBA has seen in awhile, during game 5 of the Eastern Confrence Finals.

The Indiana Pacers received a spike in attention recently due to one of their player’s behavior on court. Lance Stephenson blew in the ear of the LeBron James and I fell back in hysterical laughter.

This is the kind of thing you see in pickup games at the local court, guys just messing with each other mid game(c’mon not in that way perv). Which is exactly what that suits don’t want, well except maybe Donald Sterling, he probably has minority fight club under his house

In a game where you can get in trouble for a little playful banter or not wearing a suit to the games, players got to have some way to let loose. I mean look at what happens when they don’t with the OJ Simpson case(outdated references FTW).

Yeah, this is supposed to be the professional leagues, but it’s a game about a bunch of men trying to throw a ball in a hoop for hours… a little levity might not be such a bad thing.

Oh and not to forget the best part to come out of this, the memes of course! From photo shopped images of Stephenson blowing bubbles to old school game cartridges being blown into are not safe from his mouth.

Before the Pacers lost their final game against the Heat Stephenson did one more troll by putting his hand on James’ mouth. If only they won that game, so the world could witness the magnus opus of his career.

This stunt might have lessened his chances of being picked up by a team since Stephenson is a free agent. All trolls know that their art might come with a price attached; at least basketball fans got some fun back in their sport.
