Mike and Dave Review

“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” is one of the best surprises this year. The trailer left me wanting no more, while the film had me wanting to see it one more time.

The movie revolves around the titular characters Mike and Dave, played by Adam DeVine and Zac Efron respectively; need dates to keep them in check at their sister’s wedding, since hell on earth unleashes whenever they are left to their own devices.

They find dates in Alice (Anna Kendrick) and Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza); however, little do they know that they’re just as chaotic, which leads to one insane weekend for everyone involved.

This is the type of comedy where you have to apologize to the person next to you because of how madly your body will flail around from laughter. Everyone will leave the theatre looking like they were just in a UFC match.

It’s hard to recall some scenes because of how many times I closed my watering eyes while dying in my seat.

Story is loosely here to set up gags that take center stage, rapid-fire jokes that hit their target more than Steph Curry at the 3-point line.

A great aspect this film gets right that many don’t is how everyone feels like a real character, no matter how dysfunctional parts of his or her personality may be.

Mike and Dave could of easily been the man-children, seen in a million other films. Instead, they are just 20-somethings that can have silly sides to them like anyone, while having trying to have some shades of maturity when needed.

Something that can be irritating is when emotional scenes are derailed jokes, although funny, kept a barrier between the characters and myself whenever I started to connect.

Maybe being a bit too self aware a times are where the problems arise, as characters or situations get wrapped up too neatly in a couple lines of dialogue, looking at the audience as to say, “you know why you came you’re here,” like end of some Netflix date.

Efron has proved he has the chops for comedy, delivering great lines or reactions for DeVine to bounce off of.

Efron doesn’t really have a personality in the movie, one moment he’s the straight guy, then the next he’s his frat boy character from “Neighbors”. It was hard to decipher whom he was beyond, Zac Efron playing Zac Efron.

While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it sticks out when compared to others like Kendrick, who became the very likeable and neurotic Alice.

On the other side of the spectrum, there’s Plaza playing a wildly different character type from any other she done before, stealing almost every scene she’s in. Taitana is loud, brash and hysterically demented at times.

A scene in the film involving her and Mike talking about jealousy, where Tatiana reveals after cutting off the ponytail of a girl who was looking at her ex, she wore it around for a month as a warning to other women.

MIKE AND DAVE NEED WEDDING DATES

We all want someone to look at us like Anna Kendrick looks at that drink

This movies relies on its cast, the chemistry between everyone is what carries scenes. Even the supporting cast is firing on all cylinders, making scenes like the spa, worth the price of admission alone.

Comedies are easy to watch, but even harder to rewatch when you know the big surprise jokes coming. That just leaves a joke with not much to stand on after the surprise is gone.

“The Hangover” still holds up because of the journey and characters that populate its runtime.

Although some story is here, it’s more of a stage for its characters to stand on. The real show comes in the interactions between characters and their environment.

they have a distinct style don’t they?

Raunchy R-rated flicks have come been a dime a dozen the past decade, more common than hipster sighting in Wynwood or a sunrise outside my door.

Nothing is really shocking anymore, so it’s a great pleasure to see one rely on actual jokes over shock value again.

Is the movie reinventing the wheel for comedies? No, but it does most things so well, such as dialogue or likeable characters, making this a must-see summer movie.

Made Movies: Avengers: Age of Ultron Review

There’s many ways to spend two hours, doing charity work, fighting a cougar, or accepting that “ I’m home alone” text. Only two of those will make you scream like a schoolgirl in the way “Avengers: Age of Ultron” did.

“Age of Ultron” has the team facing a new robotic villain created by Tony Stark(Robert Downey Jr) that sets to destroy The Avengers and the world. The team will have to face internal struggles on top of possibly the biggest threat they’ve faced to date.

Character interactions stood out as the strong point as watching these characters banter is the heart and soul of this movie. The engaging dialogue makes it hard to notice any long period of no action not on screen because the audience is hanging on to every word.

Writer/Director, Joss Whedon, continues to show this movie is not built off of huge action pieces, but also a script. The running jokes were strong throughout, making for bigger laughs each time showing that.

This movie plays with more complicated themes, which excel the more straightforward original in the aspect with concepts like, good and evil, playing God, are Thor’s abs real, the important stuff.

The two most expendable Avengers got the most character development this time around, with Black Widow(Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye(Jeremy Renner) got to showcase why they deserve to be in this film.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver didn’t live up to the bar set by Evan Peters standout performance last year in X-Men. His acting, was perfectly fine, it was more like Quicksilver was just there and didn’t do much.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch was the best new character and the one to look out for going forward. Her powers and vengeful personality add a new dynamic that brings life to her scenes.

The opening scene started out strong with perhaps the best set piece in the film showing the Avengers do what they do best, cause mass amounts of damage no insurance will cover.

The action was very well choreographed and directed, but there weren’t really as many stand out moments like in the last film, the triple threat in the forest or Hulk smashing Loki.

The movie doesn’t recapture that magic the first did with seeing all these larger than life characters together on screen for the first time ever. It takes a few steps forward and you know the rest of this sentence.

Parts such as the South Korea sequence were forgettable and would have been best left on the cutting room floor. Thor has a subplot that doesn’t really go anywhere; luckily things go so quick these are minor gripes.

It’s easy to see that the cast are so used to these characters after playing them so long. Little ad-libs like Tony Stark doing a little bit of dancing and humming as he invades an enemy fortress are loved and welcomed.

Ultron(James Spader) is a cunning villain, who was also sympathetic because he believed everything did was actually good, instead of the cliché “I’m evil”, while twirling his robotic mustache(rostache?). Yet, never feeling unbeatable, it was more like a question of when the team would defeat him rather than if they would.

Setting up the seeds for Civil War in this film gave great glimpses of what’s to come in next year’s movie when the heroes battle each other. There are many tense sense involving Cap and Tony that give audiences of mouth covering moments.

The 3-D felt like it was an afterthought and the only reason someone wouldn’t forget it was because ever so often the movie would throw a pebble or shoe, except in 3-D! This is disappointing considering how the previous Marvel movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”, made such good use of it.

The film is great and stands solid by itself, but when comparing it to the previous Avenger’s film or even the more recent Marvel film’s like Guardians or Winter Solider, it doesn’t stand as tall. “Age of Ultron” is a great summer flick with depth and some content that fumbles in parts.

Cuffing Season : Hook Up In The Fall, Break Up In The Spring

Time to put on that Drake album and light the scented candles, cuffing season has arrive. Time to find a mate before it’s too later and whatever other words that rhyme.

Cuffing season is when late fall and winter comes and people find a mate to huddle up with. Spring or Summer baby are most conceived during cuffing season. Yeah, there’s an image to have of mom and dad all winter long.

For the guys, this not caveman times so you can’t just club a lady over the head and drag her her to your cave. A little more finesse is required…and the other thing is illegal.

Some want to find a person to spend those long winter nights with, someone to be a human blanket. Others want something a little different.

”The real part of cuffing season is just for you to have somebody to have sex with”, said Shanneil Blackwood. She continued, ”They’re not looking for a long term thing… that’s why so many people break up afterwards”.

Keep your cave clean and welcoming. Nobody wants to walk in to a dark looking dungeon reminiscent of a torture room (unless they’re into that) or the place looking like the streets of Florida after a hurricane.

Whoever you’re going to cuff this semester will be spending a lot more time at your place. Just because you live off week old pizzas, doesn’t mean they have too as well. Stock your place with some things that eat, if you’re spending more time together.

On what a guy’s place should be like, Haley Ferguson said, “The bathroom needs to be clean, the kitchen needs to be clean” Ferguson added “I’ll feel comfortable if I stuff for me there…something that is kinda like mine, like ‘oh here’s your tooth brush or this your loofa’ “.

Just because the water may be colder due to the winter, doesn’t mean the showers, grooming, etc have to stop. Nobody will come in five feet of you if appearance is not kept up, unless the homeless thing is in style.

Great places to meet potential partners are at coffee shops, holiday parties or the usual club. Women have a greater option in terms of getting a guy for the reason of all they really have to say is “hey”. Even though the odds are stacked against the fellas, doesn’t mean the cant arrange them in their favor.

Don’t come with pickup lines their played out and rarely are charming or cute. Just have a honest conversation, the outcome will turn out much better that spitting a thousand one liners.” I think pickup lines is cheesy and seldom I’ve ever seen them work”,said Aaron Payne.

If “I’m seeing someone” is said don’t instantly tune out and look to the next closet warm body. They may be seeing someone, but they could potentially introduce you to a friend who isn’t.

Flirting is a skill that if never used could be lost. Cut your teeth by starting conversations with as many people as possible. Not being able keep another person engaged in conversation is a big minus for many.

Flirting is basically the trial version of dating, if the person can stand you for a few minutes, why would they upgrade and how are they supposed to with stand you for weeks, months or even years.

Apps to help further your efforts to the next level are OkCupid and Tinder. OkCupid for those who want to start possible long term relationships. Tinder for those who are the type to be in a different bed every week. Whether it is a physical or emotional relationship, cuffing season is here to serve both needs.

Out of all the people interviewed, the majority had one thing in common, they want their partners to be themselves and have fun. Remember, you can never say the wrong thing to the right person.

Confidence is a must as whoever you’re going after can’t be sure if they want to be with you if you’re not sure either.

Being scared to ask a friend out is foolish. Both of you are adults (hopefully); with the worst thing that can happen being is the say no. Life does not end so move on.

Be aware there is no going back though, if they say yes nothing will be the same again. If it goes wrong, it will affect others, possibly dividing your group of friends.

Have passion in everything you do, especially romance and may the odds be ever in your favor this cuffing season.

Made Funny: “The Body Bag Experiment”

This video has two friends putting each other in body bags and trying to get it across town in broad daylight. They attempt to even get civilians to help out and cops even become involved at some point.

I have to cover my eyes(in a good way) with videos like this sometimes, because the hosts do a great job of getting hilarious and even uncomfortable reactions from people on the street.

The great thing about this video, is that it’s not mean spirited like the other pranks online. It’s fun and lighthearted to watch

“Social Disorder” is one of the many funny shows on Rooster Teeth, which only adds more variety to their content. This show is great on seeing showing how our society reacts to various situations.

Made Funny: Loco Gangsters

This sketch is hilariously ridiculous, with the premise being an insecure gangster trying to out crazy a new member. Key & Peele have a chemistry that helped made this one of the funniest videos of the weeks.

“Loco Gangsters” is a sequel to the original skit “Proud Thug”. Want double the funny? here’s an extra video to make you laugh out loud or have a stone face like a serial killer while you type lol(we’ve all done it).
